HOW ARE OPEN POSITIONS FILLED AT MRC INDUSTRIES, INC.?
1. Opportunities are posted
All currently-open external employment opportunities are posted on MRC Industries’ website and intranet site including closing date for applications. Opportunities are also posted at each MRC program site and in local periodicals and employment websites, such as Michigan Works!
2. Candidate submits a resume or application
Interested candidates may apply by submitting a resume by mail, fax, or email to the Human Resource Manager. Candidates may also complete an employment application available at the MRC Industries’ main office.
3. Resumes and Applications are reviewed
Applicant resumes and employment applications will be available for hiring managers to review based on the positions which are available. Hiring managers will only have access to a resume or application if a candidate applied specifically for a position within their department.
The Human Resource Manager and hiring managers review the resumes and applications against the required qualifications for the position. If a hiring manager expresses interest in an application, the Human Resource Manager or her designee will contact the applicant directly.
4. Candidates are phone-screened (some positions)
If the qualifications match the requirements of the open position, a phone screen is conducted by the Human Resource Manager or her designee to convey more specific information about MRC and the position, including work environment, pay range, benefits, hours, etc. The applicants will be asked for more specific information about their experience, knowledge, and abilities. The Human Resource Manager will determine which candidates will be invited for an on-site interview.
5. On-site interviews are scheduled
When an on-site interview is scheduled, candidates will come to the appropriate location and complete necessary paperwork (application, essential functions statement, consents, etc.) and speak with the hiring manager and/or Human Resource Manager. Discussion will cover the candidate’s qualifications relevant to job duties. In many cases, a second on-site interview will take place with a Program Director or the President.
6. Facility Tour (some positions)
A tour of the facility/program for which the applicant is interviewing will typically take place at the first interview, if applicable. For positions with a large candidate pool, a facility tour will take place at the second interview.
7. References are checked
The Human Resource Manager or her designee will check employment references prior to an offer of employment. References will generally take place after the first interview unless otherwise indicated during the interview process.
8. Candidate selection is made
A decision for hire will be made by the hiring manager in conjunction with the Human Resource Manager. The President will approve all candidates for hire by reviewing and signing off on the applicant packet compiled by the Human Resource Manager.
9. Contingent employment offer of employment is extended
The hiring manager or Human Resource Manager will contact the candidate with a verbal offer of employment and await the candidate’s decision. Once accepted, the candidate will meet with the Human Resource Manager or her designee within 24 hours to complete pre-employment activities.
10. Pre-employment activities are completed
The Human Resource Manager or her designee will conduct a background check, driver’s record check, and drug screen at the MRC Industries main office. Results will be returned within 72 hours and a formal job offer can then be extended.
11. New employee paperwork completed
The Human Resource Manager or her designee will generate a formal offer letter to the new hire and set a meeting to complete all new hire paperwork prior to the new hire starting work.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS / FAQs
Q: May I apply for more than one position with MRC at one time?
A: Yes. You may apply for any position that interests you and for which you are qualified as long as it is within the posted time period for applying. Please submit a resume or application for each position for which you are applying.
Q: How long will it be before I get contacted by someone after I apply?
A: There is not a set time for a response. As mentioned above, after you submit your resume or application, the Human Resource and hiring managers will review your submittal. If the hiring manager and the Human Resource Manager are interested in learning more about your background they will contact you. Our goal is to respond back to you either way within 30 days of your application for a position.
Q: Will MRC contact me even if I do not get contacted for an interview?
A: Yes. MRC appreciates all applicants’ time and interest in responding to employment postings. MRC attempts to contact all applicants by email (if address is given) or mail to inform them that the position has been filled.
Q: Will my resume or application remain active after the position has been filled?
A: Unfortunately, no. Due to our regulatory reporting structure, your resume or application will only be considered for the particular position(s) in the time period for which you applied. You may, however, contact the Human Resource Manager each time you see a posting in which you are interested if you would like your previously submitted resume or application to be submitted into the current opening.
MRC does not accept resumes or applications when there is no open posting except for on-call/substitute positions.
Q: What are MRC Industries’ definitions of full time/part time/on-call?
A: At MRC Industries, full time employment is considered to be 30 hours or more of regularly scheduled hours per week; part time employment is considered to be 20–29 hours of regularly scheduled hours per week; and on-call employment is considered less than 20 hours per week with no set scheduled hours.
Q: What traits do you look for in a candidate for future employment with MRC Industries?
A: In addition to meeting the required minimum qualifications and the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, we look for applicants who are dedicated to providing excellent services to people. Additionally, a solid work history with good references is important. We are looking for applicants who have a record of dependability, are quality-driven, hard working, great team players who are also effective independent workers, and who demonstrate a commitment to all people served by MRC Industries.
